I adore Meryl Streep. I came to know of her through her acting. I came to know about her – her convictions, aspirations, core values, non-negotiables and advocacy through a variety of publications and rare interviews that she has given.
For me, she is a lesson about truly living an authentic life. We hear the word “authentic” way too much, it’s overused and few people I believe have become free of what holds them back to truly be authentic. To fully do so takes commitment, courage, strength, humility and requires a degree of risk-taking.
When needing to be or seeking to be, inspired, I often call upon my role models. I have many that I look to when I am in doubt, fearful, lacking confidence, uncertain, etc. Envisioning how they would step into a situation, handle a challenge, needed a dose of courage, I picture them in the back of my head and draw upon each of them, to walk through an unsteady time.
If there’s a person who inspires you (whether you know them personally or perhaps have never met), write down their attributes, characteristics, traits, that you admire that provides you with inspiration. Picture them in your mind and then use what comes to mind to mirror your own behaviors and activities.
